A Mother’s Love
You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. 2 Corinthians 3:3
Today we celebrate Mother’s Day! I don’t know about you but I am so thankful for mothers. As a kid growing up, my mother was my best friend. She was the only one that I could talk to about all the deep things that were going on in my life. Looking back now, I can see that a lot of those things were silly, but they sure weren’t silly to me then. And my mother never gave me any indication they were silly to her. She knew I was serious about whatever it was and her responses were always serious and loving.
In fact, to me, my mother was a perfect demonstration of God’s love for us. She loved me unconditionally and was always there for me. That doesn’t mean I didn’t get in trouble when I did wrong. Which when you stop and think about it, is exactly how God is! There are consequences to our choices. My mom didn’t preach to me, but she did live her life in such a way that she displayed the gospel to me in a way that I could see it every day in everything she did! My mom was a walking, talking epistle!
It is appropriate to honor our mothers. It’s even more important to live our lives as living epistles to be read by all men. Mom’s, I want to encourage you to live the life of Christ in front of your children. Even if you don’t think they are listening, I guarantee you they are watching. The life you live will affect your children. No matter what stage in life you are in, it’s never too late. Remember your children are watching! People don’t care how much we know until they know how much we care! This is true especially of our children.
There is a special place in heaven for mothers. Let all of us do our best to be a living epistle that leaves a powerful mark on all who read our lives! God bless our mothers!
Consumed by the call,
Pastor Marty
