What to do with Aunt Julie
“Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age? Matthew 24:3
Every family has an Aunt Julie. This is the relative in your family who embarrasses you or the one nobody wants to be around because you never know how she is going to act or what she might say. We all have one. Harold Camping predicted the end of the world on May 21st. Not only did he pick the day but he even went as far as to predict the hour. Now, no mature Christian took him seriously because we are familiar enough with the Bible to know Jesus said himself, “no one knows the hour or the day except my Father in heaven.” So, we just blew him off as another Aunt Julie. He’s our relative, he’s kin to us, but this is another one of those moments when he has embarrassed us by running off at the mouth and unfortunately has way too many people hanging on his every word. Based on what I know Harold Camping is a believer. He’s probably pretty intelligent. And he’s not the first guy to predict the second coming of Christ. Even if Jesus was planning on coming back that day, he would have changed it after Harold’s prediction! There is good and bad that has come from all of this. The good is that it has forced people to look at their own immortality and to take a deep look at their relationship with God. The bad is that now that the world didn’t end, it has left another black eye on the Church. The liberal news media has been running with it all along. It just adds fuel to their statements that we are nothing more than a bunch of right-wing fanatical’s who are trying to scare the world into converting to Christianity. The effect of this is that is deadening the world to the reality that Jesus Christ is coming back soon! I believe with all of my heart He will come back in this generation. Matthew 24 goes into great detail explaining how we should be able to read the signs. Let those who are wise pay attention and read the signs that are so obvious in this day in which we live. Also, take heed to the warning at the end of Matthew 24 to be ready. Jesus said, if the owner of the house knew what time the thief was coming he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. Let us look with great expectation for the coming of our Lord and be ready! He will reward those who are ready! Let us be numbered with those who are ready and are looking for His coming!
Consumed by the call,
Pastor Marty

I am relly enjoying your blogs. This one is very insightful to us as believers to be careful how we speak in the name of Jesus. We need to be careful in what we say to others in regard to what scripture says. God wants us to speak but only those things he speaks. We need to handle the Word of God with great care because it is a special jewel from God to us. Thanks for keeping us accountable.
